Gower Gardens - CQC Response
We opened our Gower Gardens residential care home in September 2016 and were recently rated Good for our responsive and effective service. We were disappointed with the rating of Requires Improvement in three areas – Well led, Safe and Caring – and have been taking action over the last few months to ensure that our new home offers the quality of care that we would all wish for our families. We have a detailed action plan in place – and have taken some of key actions to ensure improvement.
We have appointed a new, experienced residential care manager to lead the home and the staff team. Our staffing at nights has been reviewed and changes made. Our medication policies and procedures have been reviewed with the help of a pharmacist and nurse and we have changed the way that we do things to improve medication administration. We have trained our staff in falls prevention and introduced new systems to ensure that we take action to prevent falls reoccurring. We have ensured that our managerial staff can provide more visible support to carers and residents and increased our staffing levels.
Our home is newly built and provides a lovely environment for our residents and a welcoming place for our relatives to visit their loved ones. Our new manager and staff are committed to providing outstanding care and are working to demonstrate that to the CQC, but most importantly to our residents and their families.
